City boss Pep Guardiola will be eager to have the French defender back so when will he be fit?
Benjamin Mendy has made quite the impression at Manchester City since arriving in July 2017 despite only featuring in 16 Premier League games to date.
The France World Cup winner has seen his Etihad career hit by injury issues since joining meaning he’s been more present on social media than on the pitch.
Despite that, the £52million signing from Monaco has shown in glimpses just how good he is and Pep Guardiola will want him back as City strive to claim a host of silverware this season.
Mendy hasn’t featured for the Citizens since November’s 3-1 league win over rivals Manchester United and has been struggling with a knee injury since.
City have had to call upon Fabian Delph, Oleksandr Zinchenko and Aymeric Laporte to fill in at left-back in recent weeks with Mendy out.
But the 24-year-old is nearing his return to the starting XI and will likely have a big part to play for the rest of the campaign.
What games has he missed?
Since Mendy took his place on the sidelines, City have hit a patch of bad form by their high standards.
Of the 14 games Mendy has missed, City have won nine, lost three and drawn twice, including back-to-back Premier League defeats over the Christmas period.
City have returned to form in their last four fixtures, beating Southampton, Liverpool, Rotherham and Burton, scoring an incredible 21 goals in doing so.
What games will he miss?
The Frenchman is still a few weeks off returning to action meaning he’ll likely miss the rest of City’s games this month.
That’ll mean he won’t be fit to face Burton in the second leg of their Carabao Cup semi-final or the Premier League matches against Wolves, Huddersfield and Newcastle. Likewise he is set to miss the FA Cup fourth round tie against Burnley.
What games should he be back for?
So long as his knee injury doesn’t flare up again, Mendy is expected to return to action in early February.
That would mean he will be able to face Arsenal and Chelsea in City’s huge Premier League double-header at the start of next month.
He is also set to be fit for the club’s Champions League last 16 tie against Schalke on February 20.
What is his record this season?
Mendy has played nine Premier League games so far this season and notched an impressive six assists.
Of the 11 appearances the defender has made this term, City have won nine times and drawn twice.
What has Pep Guardiola said?
Speaking prior to their Carabao Cup first-leg win over Burton, Guardiola said: “Benjamin is much better. He’s training alone.
“Two weeks, three weeks maybe [until he returns].
