Diogo Dalot, Luke Shaw and Marcus Rashford have all reached exceptionally fast speeds this season
Romelu Lukaku has hit out at critics who labelled him ‘slow’ by claiming he is actually the fastest player at Manchester United.
And the Belgium striker has the stats to prove his claim is correct.
Like many of United’s star players, Lukaku struggled at the start of the season under Jose Mourinho as the Red Devils recorded their worst ever start to a Premier League season.
Fans and critics alike were quick to berate the £75million striker as his touch and his confidence deserted him.
In fact, one bookmaker even offered prices on the 25-year-old top miscontrol the ball with his first touch during his lowest point.
However, the former Chelsea striker has proved his worth and the stats show he is in fact United’s quickest player this season.
When answering questions from fans during an Instagram post on the Red Devils’ Instagram post, Lukaku claimed he was quicker than the likes of Marcus Rashford and Luke Shaw – famed for their explosive pace.
And, courtesy of Opta and the Dail Mail, there is now definitive proof he was telling the truth.
In the top ten speeds from the season so far, Lukaku features three times and his top speed of 34.89km/h is the time to beat.
Diogo Dalot and Ashley Young also take their place among the speed merchants at Old Trafford, but it is Lukaku who comes out on top.
Under caretaker boss Ole Gunnar Solskjaer, the striker has returned to form and bagged an impressive hat-trick against Southampton at the start of this month.
The ‘Baby-Faced Assassin’ will be hoping the MRI scan Lukaku required on his foot reveals no irregularities as they continue to push for a Champions League place.
