Borussia Dortmund were also interested in the full-back
Tottenham right-back Serge Aurier was reportedly primed to move to Atletico Madrid this summer before the deal collapsed at the last minute.
Aurier, 25, moved to the north London club from Paris Saint-Germain last summer for £23million.
But Spurs were open to letting the defender go to after holding talks with the LaLiga club earlier this summer, however, the move broke down, according to RMC Sport.
German side Borussia Dortmund were also reportedly in the hunt for the Ivorian.
It’s not clear why Aurier’s move to Spain broke down at the last minute, however.
Although he was seen as an ideal replacement for Kyle Walker, Aurier failed to cement his place in Spurs’ first team last season as Kieran Trippier was preferred by manager Mauricio Pochettino.
However, Aurier started Spurs’ first league game of this season and provided a brilliant assist for Dele Alli’s winning goal in their 2-1 victory over Newcastle.
