Chelsea have told Ruben Loftus-Cheek to stay and fight for his place, despite the midfielder’s omission from Saturday’s squad.

The 22-year-old is reportedly considering another loan move after Blues boss Maurizio Sarri didn’t even name him among the substitutes for the Arsenal victory.

Loftus-Cheek was hoping this would be his breakthrough season at Chelsea

Ross Barkley started the game and loan signing Mateo Kovacic impressed from the bench, leaving Loftus-Cheek way down the midfield pecking order.

However, according to the Telegraph, the club would like to see him compete for his place, at least until January when the market reopens and they can reassess his future.

Many expected Loftus-Cheek to break into Chelsea’s starting XI this season after a successful loan spell at Crystal Palace.

His performances with the Eagles last term earned him a place in Gareth Southgate’s England squad and Loftus-Cheek knows he must play regularly to keep his place.

Spanish, German and French clubs can sign players until the end of August and Bundesliga club Schalke have already expressed an interest.

But Loftus-Cheek, whose contract expires in 2021, is not able to join another Premier League club on loan until January, and staying put until then may prove his best option.
