Mauricio Pochettino is understood to still be United’s number one target but the case for Solskjaer keeps growing
Paul Parker has backed Ole Gunnar Solskjaer to be the next long term manager of Manchester United.
Solskjaer has won seven and drawn one of his first eight matches since taking over as a caretaker in December.
The impressive start has led to calls for him to be given the job on a permanent basis while it is believed the club see Tottenham Hotspur manager Mauricio Pochettino as their number one target.
Parker, who played 105 league matches for the Red Devils, told talkSPORT: “I believe he could manage Manchester United next season and beyond but I think he’s got to have a director of football or sporting director with him.
“He’s already got the godfather behind him already. The boss is definitely there and involved.
“Maybe a sporting director, someone who works with all these agents, who knows this man and knows what line he is going down.
“I think he can do that job with the right people around him.
“We’ve seen it already. He’s got Mike Phelan next to him. People see him sitting there quite relaxed but he has a major say in what is happening.”
