Patrice Evra sent-off for attacking a Marseille supporter

Following ugly scenes in the away end at Guimaraes, Patrice Evra has been shown red before the game had even started.

Marseille are in action against Portuguese side Vitória S.C. in the Europa League this evening.

The French full-back was shown red for kicking a supporter in the face.

The incident

The incident took place 30 minutes before the kick-off was scheduled.

Reports state that ultras from the French club were shouting abuse at the players and particularly Evra.

Patrice Evra was sent off for his involvement, as he can be seen attacking a fan.

It is understood that angry fans are not happy with the 36-year-old’s performances recently.

Angry fans passed security to confront the players and this provoked the angry exchange.

Supporters began to sing negative chants aimed at Evra.

Evra is the first player to be shown red before a game has started since the remaining of the tournament to it being named the Europa League.

The former Manchester United man had been named amongst the substitutes for this evening’s game.

This, of course, means that the French side started with eleven men.

UEFA’s game log confirmed:

“The Marseille substitute has been shown a red card following an incident with the crowd.”

The game between Vitória de Guimarães and Olympique de Marseille is currently goalless after 60 minutes played.
