‘never in doubt’

The Spurs goalkeeper kept out Jamie Vardy’s penalty and stood firm throughout Leicester’s raid on the Tottenham goal

Tottenham boss Mauricio Pochettino insists he never doubted Hugo Lloris following his spectacular performance in the 3-1 victory over Leicester.

The Spurs shot-stopper saved Jamie Vardy’s second-half penalty in what proved to be a game-changing moment.

Lloris was at his very best against Leicester

Davinson Sanchez had given Spurs the lead and, after Vardy’s miss from the spot, Christian Eriksen soon doubled their advantage.

Vardy, who was brought on specifically to take the spot-kick, atoned by pulling one back, before Heung-min Son put the result beyond doubt in injury time.

It was an uncomfortable afternoon at times for Spurs and they needed the France captain at his very best as the Foxes created a host of chances.

And, despite some shaky moments this season, Pochettino has never questioned his goalkeeper’s class.

“We can have no doubts about someone who is one of the best goalkeepers in the world,” he told talkSPORT.

“Some period during 10 months of competition, and after winning the World Cup, it’s not always easy to manage your situation.

“But, of course, no doubt and today he was key to help the team manage the three points.”

Another standout player at Wembley was Eriksen, who scored yet another stunning strike from distance.

The Danish midfielder is yet to agree a new deal with the club amid reported interest from the likes of Barcelona, and Pochettino admits he is invaluable to Spurs.

“Today he scored a great goal. I hope that all the parties decide to take the best decision for the club.”
