The 24-year-old is in blistering form for City, who lead Liverpool in the title race
Raheem Sterling could become one of the top Premier League players of all time, according to Joe Cole.
The 24-year-old Manchester City star has scored 12 goals and registered nine assists in 24 league games as City battle Liverpool for the title this season.
And Cole, who won every domestic honour with Chelsea, including three Premier League titles between 2003 and 2010, believes Sterling is only going to get better.
He told Premierleague.com: “I’ve always thought he’s a massive talent and I think he’s turned himself into a top, top player. A lot of credit has to go to [City boss] Pep Guardiola and people like that.
“But the lad takes on lessons and look at the positions he takes up and the amount of goals he scores now – and at the age he’s at, there are still extra levels to go.
“We could be talking in five years’ time as Raheem Sterling being one of the top Premier League players of all time if he keeps winning trophies and keeps on scoring goals.
“The great thing about him is, he’s had a move from Liverpool to Manchester City, there’s been a lot of weight on his shoulders and he’s taken that on and he looks almost mentally indestructible at the moment.
“Just to get in that team is a thing in itself but he’s one of the top players in that team – and that is some going.
“We should be lucky and proud that he’s an English player and to have him in our national team. He’s done so well and I’m so pleased for him.”
Sterling was clearly happy with the praise, tweeting “Means a lot, thanks Joe” and when one fan replied saying Cole was spot on with his praise, Sterling said: “I’m far from there yet, it takes time and so much work.. worth a try though”.
