Barcelona vs Man United

On Tuesday night at the Camp Nou, Man United will face Spanish giants Barcelona.

Barcelona are 1-nil up in their Champions League quarterfinal tie with the Red Devils.

An own goal from Luke Shaw – the left-back turned a Luis Suarez into the United net – earned Barca victory at Old Trafford.

Can Man United turn the tie around?

Optimists will points to Man United’s 3-1 win at PSG as a source of inspiration.

However the overriding feeling is that Barca will KO United.

Nemanja Matic & Alexis Sanchez

Following Man United’s 2-1 win over West Ham, Ole Gunnar Solskjaer indicated that Alexis Sanchez will return for the Barcelona game.

In the Times on Monday, the Sanchez update is again confirmed along with positive news regarding Nemanja Matic:

Solskjaer’s options are boosted by the return of Matic and Sánchez.

(Ander) Herrera is still injured and will not travel with the rest of the squad.

The Man United players who don’t fit the system

Times journalist Paul Hirst has also listed seven Man United first team players who could face the axe at Old Trafford.

That case is made that none of these players – right now, at least – offer the attacking threat United demand:

The fact is that the majority of the players presently at (Solskjaer’s) disposal are not good enough to play enterprising football.

Juan Mata is a wonderful technical player, but he slows down the transition from defence to attack; Romelu Lukaku is often too cumbersome; Alexis Sánchez is past his best; Ander Herrera does not offer as much going forward as he used to; Scott McTominay is still learning his trade; Nemanja Matic is technically sound but not mobile enough. Fred is still finding his feet in the Premier League.
