The Netherlands centre half is one of the most coveted young footballers in the world
Matthijs de Ligt is one of the most in-demand young footballers in the world right now and is being tracked by host of elite European clubs.
The 19-year-old Ajax defender has been impressing for his club and country, with ten Netherlands caps to his name already.
He had arguably his toughest test yet in his career on Satruday, trying to keep a resilient Germany attack quiet on Saturday.
But the teenager excelled at the centre of defence alongside Liverpool star Virgil van Dijk
Joachim Low could only watch on as his side were torn apart by a rejuvenated Dutch side thanks to goals from Liverpool duo van Dijk and Georginio Wijnaldum, before a late third from Manchester United flop Memphis Depay.
The result leaves Ronald Koeman’s side on the brink of qualifying from their UEFA Nations League group, with de Ligt excelling.
And his display did not go unnoticed by some Liverpool fans, who called on Jurgen Klopp to reunite De Ligt with Van Dijk at Anfield.
Despite his tender age, de Ligt captains Ajax having made just 76 senior appearances. Strong, quick and good on the ball, the comparisons with van Dijk and extremely deserved and his level-headed approach will stand him in good stead.
With Juventus and Manchester City reportedly at the front of the queue to sign him, Klopp may be best served with taking the advice of these fans on Twitter, who could not help but rave about the starlet. Check out the best responses below!
