Bayern’s Manuel Neuer & Liverpool
Liverpool take on Bayern Munich in the last-16 of the Champions League.
Liverpool will host the Bavarians at Anfield on February 19. The return leg at the Allianz Arena is on March 13.
One of the big topics of conversation in recent weeks has centred on Manuel Neuer.
Neuer has been injured for Bayern with a hand problem. Indeed he missed last weekend’s 3-1 win over Schalke in the Bundesliga.
Sven Ulreich has been playing for the Bavarians in Neuer’s absence.
Neuer says he’s fit for Liverpool
Raphael Honigstein has spoken to Neuer for ESPN FC in his build-up to the Liverpool game.
The German World Cup winner has confirmed he expects to be fit to start against the Reds in the Champions League.
So what exactly did Neuer say?
1. On recovering from his injury in time to face Liverpool…
“I am fine, it’s not that bad. I think our medical [staff] will push me into goal and if everything is fine in training, I will play [against Liverpool].
“We are all positive. I think I will be between the sticks.”
2. On their upcoming tie…
“It’s the first game for me at Anfield. I’m looking forward to playing there.
“We have heard a lot about the atmosphere in the stadium — everyone who watches football knows it’s special — and I think they will be two great games
“For us, the Champions League is very important. It is a knockout tie, two finals. We are happy to play in their stadium.
“Hopefully, it will be great night for us. But it depends on the result, of course.”
