Bournemouth vs Newcastle

Bournemouth host Newcastle United on Saturday in one of just three Premier League games that day.

The Cherries ended their poor run of form last weekend as they beat 20th place Huddersfield 2-0.

Bournemouth will now be looking to build on that win to ensure they reach that magic 40 points that will all but guarantee their safety.

Newcastle will also be looking to stave off relegation.

Rafa Benitez’s side sit 13th in the league, three points below Bournemouth. They are in much better form than Bournemouth though, losing one of their last five.

Newcastle are also six points above the drop zone but with eight games left to play Newcastle needed to rack up a few more points to ensure their survival.

Bournemouth injury update

Ahead of the Newcastle tie, Bournemouth boss Eddie Howe has given an update on his squad.

Callum Wilson has only recently returned from injury and put in a stellar display vs Huddersfield.

Howe has since confirmed that Wilson came through the game without any issues:

“Callum [Wilson] came through the Huddersfield game well. He played the full match and didn’t look tired or fatigued at all.

“He’s sharp and in good form, so we were delighted to see him in the England squad.”

Ryan Fraser was a doubt for the Newcastle tie after missing training earlier this week.

However, he too should be fit for the weekends game:

“Ryan [Fraser] took a fair few hits during the Huddersfield game. He missed the early part of training but he should be okay for this weekend.”
