Ross Barkley has been targeted online this evening, after a mistake from the Chelsea midfielder allowed Sergio Aguero to notch Manchester City’s 3rd versus the Blues.

Man City vs Chelsea

Maurizio Sarri’s men are currently locked in action with City at the Etihad, in a Premier League clash.

Chelsea no doubt headed into proceedings eager for a positive result, having been ousted from their top-4 berth by Manchester United yesterday afternoon.

City, meanwhile, were also desperate for a 3-point haul, after Liverpool’s comfortable victory over Bournemouth yesterday saw the Reds reestablish their 3-point lead atop the Premier League table.

City run riot

However, when things got underway in Manchester this evening, there was only ever really one side in it.

Incredibly, the game’s opening 25 minutes saw City race out to an unassailable 4-0 lead.

The Citizens notched their opener with just 4 minutes on the clock, when Raheem Sterling slammed home into the roof of the net after arriving at the back post.

Sergio Aguero then notched a quick-fire double between the 13th and 19th-minutes, first bending home a stunning strike from 25 yards, before capitalizing on a misplaced Ross Barkley header to bag his second from close range.

And Ilkay Gundogan rounded out a frankly-frightening opening to the clash from hosts City before the half-hour mark, curling home a low finish from just outside the box.

Barkley’s moment of madness

Unsurprisingly, fans have since absolutely flooded to Twitter to discuss the incredible events at the Etihad, with one topic to have garnered plenty of attention having been Ross Barkley’s involvement in City’s 3rd goal.

After David Luiz had looped a header to the edge of the Chelsea box, Barkley opted to head the ball back towards his goalkeeper, with Aguero having nipped in in front of Kepa to comfortably slot home.

‘Everton through and through’

It was, in truth, a somewhat-baffling decision on the part of the English midfielder, with viewers of this evening’s clash having since had some fun at Barkley’s expense as a result.

With the 25-year-old having come up through the youth ranks at Everton, and spent his entire career on the books of the Toffees until last January, it has been suggested that Barkley was simply attempting to aid City’s Premier League title charge, so as to ensure that Liverpool are left empty-handed come the end of the season:
