The agent of Watford star Roberto Pereyra has today revealed that Chelsea are expressing an interest in his client’s services.
28-year-old attacking midfielder/winger Pereyra made the move to Vicarage Road in the summer of 2016, following a trophy-laden two-year spell with Serie A giants Juventus.
And, following a difficult first couple of seasons on Watford’s books, during which he was blighted by injuries, Pereyra has since gone on to establish himself as one of the Hornets’ key performers to this point in the current campaign.
The former Udinese man’s eye for goal and ability to create something from nothing have proven crucial to the fortunes of Javi Gracia’s men this season.
All told, Pereyra has started all 21 of Watford’s Premier League outings, notching 6 goals (including a couple of Goal of the Season contenders) in the process.
‘Chelsea are interested’
As is to be expected, though, Pereyra’s stellar form of late has not gone unnoticed across Europe.
Walter Mazzarri, current manager of Serie A outfit Torino and the man who brought the gifted South American to Vicarage Road two-and-a-half years ago, is reportedly keen on a reunion with Pereyra.
However, as confirmed by the Watford star’s agent earlier today, the Granata are not the only club eyeing a move for Pereyra, with Premier League giants Chelsea also expressing an interest in his services.
Speaking in an interview with Tuttosport, Sergio Furlan revealed:
‘[Mazzarri] is why Maxi (Pereyra) moved to England after two years at Juventus. He wanted him at Napoli in 2012 after his first year at Udinese. He wanted him for Torino in the summer too.’
‘Chelsea are interested as well but Watford have postponed everything until June.’
‘In the market you can never say never, but I can almost categorically rule out a January move. He’s focused on the team and the club don’t want to sell him halfway through a campaign.’
‘Maxi wouldn’t want to leave Watford at such an important time either.’
