‘A cloud hangs over West Ham United and the London Stadium’

The Hammers have lost their opening four Premier League games – the last time they did that they were relegated

John Motson likened the toxic atmosphere at West Ham United to a cloud looming ominously over the London Stadium.

Adama Traore’s last-minute winner condemned the Hammers to their fourth straight Premier League defeat to leave them rooted to the bottom of the table.

Pellegrini’s bubble may already have burst in east London

Commentating on his first game since coming out of retirement for talkSPORT, Motson noticed how negative the atmosphere was around the club.

After fan protests last season, the legendary broadcaster admitted there is still tension in the east London air.

He told talkSPORT 2: “You just feel sorry for some of the West Ham supporters, some of whom I am going to meet on the way out.

“They haven’t done it again, and somehow a cloud still hangs over this club and this stadium.

“I don’t quite know how to put it any other way.”

After spending over £100million on players in the summer transfer window, Manuel Pellegrini would have hoped for some sort of return on his investment.

But all the Chilean has to show for his efforts is a narrow victory over League One side AFC Wimbledon in the Carabao Cup.
