Stephen Colbert’s helpful reminder about US Soccer

Yes, the US Men’s National team failed to qualify for the 2018 World Cup, which is embarrassing and unfortunate and a punch to our collective gut as a country that gets super involved in the sport especially when it’s time to day drink and chant “USA USA USA” every time someone from Team USA touches the ball. And of course also for the team’s dedicated followers, who wanted to watch Christian Pulisic play in a World Cup.

But, some good news: The US Women’s team still has a chance to qualify for their World Cup, meaning that not only can fans still do all of the previously mentioned things that fans do during the World Cup – but there’s an even better chance for the country to win in this one.

Stephen Colbert helpfully reminded fans of this on his program on Wednesday, adding that “we all remember when Brandi Chastain tore off her shirt after winning in 1999. No one remembers what Eric Wynalda’s sports bra looked like. Who’s Eric Wynalda? Exactly.”
