Philadelphia Union today officially announced the signing of midfielder Zach Pfeffer to a professional contract as the club’s first Homegrown Player. The 15-year-old, who recently returned from a two-week training stint with German Bundesliga side TSG 1899 Hoffenheim, was a member of the Philadelphia’s U-17 squad that competed in the MLS U-17 SUM Cup in Houston, Texas, in July. Per Major League Soccer and club policy, terms of the deal will not be disclosed.

Pfeffer becomes the first player to join the 2010 expansion team from the MLS Homegrown Player initiative, a program started in 2006 designed to provide increased opportunities for local players. Each MLS team may sign players from their respective youth development programs without subjecting those players to the MLS SuperDraft. Born January 6, 1995, Pfeffer is the fourth youngest player ever to sign an MLS contract, behind Freddy Adu, Fued Ibrahim, and recently signed New England Revolution Homegrown Player Diego Fagundez.

Pfeffer has represented the United States at the U-14 and U-15 levels and trained at the IMG Academy in Bradenton, Fl., as part of U.S. Soccer’s residency program earlier this year. Prior to training with the Union, the young midfielder was a member of the U-15/U-16 USSF FC Delco Academy, as well as the Upper Dublin, Cheltenham, YMS, and Montgomery United youth clubs.

Here is a list of the duties for which the position is responsible.  If you are interested please contact us at montgomeryunitedsc@gmail.com. 

MUSC Treasurer Duties:

  • Weekly Deposits
  • Check Writing, for the club, travel and premier teams
  • Bi-Monthly payroll
  • Submit monthly and quarterly payroll taxes
  • Prepare information for the accountants for 1099 and W-2 forms
  • Balance accounts, such as travel and premier balances to the club
  • Monthly bank reconciliations
  • Preparation of the yearly budget
  • Prepare monthly financial statements to be presented to the board
  • Attend monthly executive board meetings
  • Pick-up mail form MUSC office weekly/return checks to office for signature
  • Attend yearly walk-up registrations in the spring
  • Maintain all accounting records

Accounting experience and background is helpful.  Experience with Quicken or similar accounting software and Microsoft Office is preferable.
