The select division is an extension of the Recreational Division of Montgomery United Soccer Club. It is intended for the more competitive players whom show increased desire and abilities to progress into tournament play while maintaining the objective of having fun playing soccer. Player should gain enhancement of techniques and tactical playing abilities through more intense training sessions and tournament play on both home and away fields.
Player Selection
At U-14 and above the Select coaches choose the player that they would like to play on their Select team. At U-8, U-9, U-10, and U-12 all players are invited to participate in at least 2 tryouts. Each player will be evaluated by a variety of Premier, Travel and other licensed coaches from our club. In these lower age groups, the teams will only be chosen by evaluators and the coaches will be assigned a team roster. Rec season coaches are not responsible for the final selection of player or for informing the players regarding Select team roster selections.
Coach Selection
Resume forms will be distributed to the division manager of each recreational division or are obtainable from the Select Chairperson. Those interested in coaching as a head coach or assistant coach is required to complete a resume. Resumes will be completed and submitted to the Select Chairperson. All resumes will be reviewed by the Director of Soccer and the Select Chairperson. The U-14 and above Select coaches will be notified by early October. Select coaches along with DOS will chose assistants. For U-8 through U-12 coaches will be selected by the Director of Soccer and Select Chairperson, after the Select tryouts are completed and the player pool is chosen.
Games/Tournaments
Outdoor Select tournaments begin in late October/early November and continue into December. We have recently added the West Chester Rec Plus Festival in May to our tournament list. Select teams are permitted at their own expense, to take the season up to March 31 of the following year if they are participating in indoor tournaments. If they play in a spring tournament they must register with the club for the following season. The MUSC Roger Erb Tournament will be held in November. Any indoor extension of play by the Select teams needs to be approved by December 1. Please contact the Select Chairperson.
Costs
The player fee is $55.00. This includes a Select game jersey, a MUSC training shirt and MUSC will pay for a maximum of two (2) tournaments per team. One of these tournaments will be the Roger Erb Tournament ($225 per team value) and the least expensive away tournament that the team chooses to attend. Additional player fees will vary by team, depending on how many additional tournaments are entered. Each player on the team will equally fund the cost of participating in any additional tournament(s). Currently, the additional tournaments include Horsham, Hulmeville, Langhorne, Plymouth, Souderton, Upper Moreland and West Chester.
Uniform Customization Policy
For risk management reasons the personalization of Select Jerseys or accessories, such as names or nicknames, are prohibited.
